| It is with great pleasure that the Snyderman and Works Galleries
present our third Textile and Fiber Arts International Biennial. This year
our focus was on inviting the most diverse group of artists to date; bringing
together legendary artists whom we have admired for years and artists we
feel are the up and coming stars of the field. Our appreciation is most whole-heartedly extended to the artists participating in this exhibition and for their support in publishing this catalogue. We also would like to thank the many collectors and textile enthusiasts that have supported our galleries and the extraordinary artists that we represent. It seems as though, in the past decade, the doors have been blown wide open in the field of contemporary textile and fiber art. National and international competitions and biennials are sprouting up in cities across the country. Museums and institutions are actively pursuing work for their permanent collections and guilds and collective organizations are focusing on the education and promotion of specific mediums and techniques. It is our purpose to show at least a small glimpse of what is currently happening in the fields of textile and fiber arts. As in the past two exhibitions, "Modus Operandi" and "Surface, Strength, Structure: Pertaining to Line", the use of traditional and non-traditional materials and techniques, the exploration of scale and the variety of forms and imagery are key. It seems as though, for no rhyme-nor-reason, I have found myself so passionately drawn to this art form. Many of the artists and collectors have become friends. The respect and loyalty to the artists, their work and the fiber community is a joyful experience. I hope that all who have the opportunity to experience this exhibition come away inspired. Most Sincerely, Bruce Hoffman, Director |
