LARRY SPAID INCLUDED IN WOODMERE ART MUSEUM ANNUAL JURIED EXHIBITION
IN FRONT OF STRANGERS, I SING, which opened at the Woodmere Museum on May 25, and continues through September 1, 2013, is a broad, richly detailed examination of the vibrant contemporary visual arts scene in Philadelphia.
As part of that survey, the jurors selected one of Spaid's works on paper, Mekong Series #1, 2012, which was part of a large solo exhibition of 33 works presented December 2012 at Snyderman-Works Galleries. The Mekong Series, based on Spaid's personal sketchbook journals, was the culmination of a three year project which began with a trek of several months exploring the Mekong River and it's tributaries in 2008. One of his major works, Mekong Series #20, was also shown in the gallery exhibition.
