For twenty-four years I have been exploring form and color
in glass with the interaction of light. My work reflects a fascination
with patterns found in nature, beginning primarily with insects and bugs.
In the past few years, I've abstracted designs ranging from the movement
of currents of the sea to it's shells and from bugs to the multifaceted
field of vegetation that we live in. I find the designs timeless, reminiscent
of an ancient lure.
Specific subject matter is selected from personal encounters that have
shaped my work and my life.
The work features the use of murrini canes. I have been experimenting with
the use of flameworked murrini which are cut to fit together and kiln fused.
The plate is then ground thin to reveal the intricate patterns inside and
slumped into shape. The process takes 2 to 4 months to create a finish
piece.
