JEN SMITH

In 1995 I first became inspired, as a photographer and jeweler, to combine my interests by creating a collection of Photo-Jewelry. The two mediums seemed a perfect marriage- the jewelry became the frame for the photograph and the photograph took the place of a precious stone found in most jewelry. I am in love with the history of Victorian picture jewelry and the intimacy that comes with being able to hold and wear these small momentos. I have found my photo-jewelry to be endlessly provocative in creating personalized family heirlooms and narrative pieces to describe the world around me.

Each piece is made using my own hand-printed and toned photographs that are precisely cut and set into individually cast gold, silver, and bronze frames. Most images are original, others are reproduced details from found and collected vintage prints. The miniature photograph is protected by a durable, archival resin that safeguards the image from water damage and fading . Every piece is hand signed and hand finished ,constructed with sterling silver, bronze,14kt gold and 14kt gold-filled metals with pearls and semi-precious stones.
