Roberta Williamson : In her jewelry
she celebrates their happiness together with their daughter, Lauren,
and recalls childhood memories. "...My father always showed
a lot of spirit. On the spur of the moment he'd spray-paint my
shoes bright shiny gold...I've always tried to find inspiration
for my work from my life and my family."
David Williamson : Born in 1849 in a small town in central Illinois,
David remembers that his family bought their first automobile
in 1953. "It was a 1948 Chevy. Until that time, my world
extended to my grandmother's house or wherever the bus lines would
takes us. ." His parents encouraged him to attend college
"and seemed pleased when I told them I was an art major.
As I look back, they must have been shocked. I cannot remember
art, music, or dance ever being a part of our lives. But I wanted
to be an artist more then anything else. " The jewelry he
makes today often incorporates found objects that recall memories
from his childhood and youth.
